What do you lot know about these? Seemed sold and a nice player. Didn't even plug it in however, so I know nothing about its electrified sound. Who knows what?

Billy:

All I can tell you is that they were called the 2625b Artist bass. Here's a picture and the specs from the catalog. Hope this helps.

ArtistBass

2625b Artist Bass Specs:
Body: Select mahogany top/mahogany body
Neck: Hard laminated maple w/ adjustable truss rod
Fingerboard: Ebonized rosewood with fancy pearl inlays
Pickups: 2 Ibanez Super Bass
Bridge: Chrome plated, 3 point adjustable
Machines: Chrome plated deluxe bass
Strings pass thru the body for increased sustain.

John,

What year(s) were these available? I've seen a couple pass through eBay with out any fanfare. If they were as nice as the guitars, you'd think they'd be a sought after item. Anybody out there play one?

Cheers
Steve

Steve:

Sorry, I don't know anything more about them. Maybe Cameron can fill in the gaps. But I'd guess they were available between '73 and early '75

As far as Iknow, this bass is only in the 76 catalog. I'd have a bet and say available for 76/77.It's not shown in the 78 catalogs.

I own an artist bass with similar neck and body but with a large humbucker (like the Ovation Magnum bass) at the fingerboard and a Rickenbacker pickup and bridge assembly (including the foam string dampers) this bass also has a 9V powered pre-amp for signal boost.

Anyone ever hear of this or have any info? I think it might be a prototype, rather than a production model.

Hi Trader!

Yes I know this one: I have one myself in my collection. It's the 2615.
It was a production model during a short period of time, from 1974 ro 1976, when the new "Artist bass", the 2625 as pictured above took ofer. here is a picture:

Thanks, Harry! Any idea how much it's worth? I use D'addario half rounds on it and it's got a pretty good range - from Jack Bruce to Chris Squire and a bunch of other tones in between.

Hi Trader!

The reasonable value of this pretty rare bass will -among collectors- fluctuate between 500 and 700 dollars, depending on condition and originality. Originally (according to the catalogue picture) this bass should have a chrome bridge pickup cover, but I never actually seen one with this part still on. My own 2615 Artist bass is missing this cover too, although it once must have had one, because the two screw holes are still visible. It is very common that bassplayers get rid of the pickup- and bridge covers because they are in the way when playing. It's a pity for the collector that these covers mostly get lost and replacements don't fit.

Thanks Harry. Mine needs a neck adjustment, but the truss rod socket is stripped, so it would probably be devalued a bit. Still sounds great - I use it for those non-Fender bass sounds.

I just picked up a nice 2625, and yes...with the pickup cover.
