Hi Michael, yes it is a SR800A AM ( amber )it was made in Japan in Feb.1998 and was the 2,820 guitar built for that month.
These were also available in Transparent Black finish .

Michael:

Sounds like you have a 1998 SR800A in amber finish. The 800A has a body made of light ash.

There was also a regular SR800 that had a basswood body. The colors on that model were black, artic blue and cherry fudge...that's right, cherry fudge! :)

Hope this helps.

HEY CAM & JOHN , THANKS A BUNCH FOR YOUR HELP, I HAVE JUST ONE FURTHER QUESTION, I ASSUME THE F STANDS FOR FEBRUARY, THE 98 FOR 1998 AND THE 2820 IS THE PRODUCTION NUMBER BUT WHAT DOES THE OTHER 2 STAND FOR F98 (2) 2820, OR AM I READING THIS WRONG THANKS AGAIN GUYS !

Michael:

Your welcome. Here's how you break down the serial number: F stands for Fuji Gen Gakki factory in Japan, the 98 stands for 1998.

Now Cam has to tell us how he came up with Feb, I assume using the first 2, and the production number. What if the month was Oct, Nov or Dec? Would there be ann extra digit?

For example: if the number was f9812820 would that be Dec 98 being the 820th unit or Jan 98 the 2820?

GO TO THE TOP OF THE CLASS "J"

Thats how it works

F= Fujigen
98= year
2= Febuary
2820= number built in factory for that month
