Hi guys (and girls)

I wonder if any of you can identify this bass for me? I bought it in 1999, but the only marking on is a prestige label near the head of the guitar. The serial number seems to denote that it was made in Japan. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Wicksy:

Looks like a very nice bass.

Can you give us some more info and/or pictures? What is the serial number? Did you buy it new? Can we see the headstock, front and back?

Wicksy:

This is probably an ATK bass, but I suspect that it's not an ATK300. The 300 was in the US catalogs from 1994 to 1999. They were Light Ash with 1 triple coil bridge pickup, pickguard and a 3 band EQ control.

Your's doesn't match this model, or the ATK500 that showed up in 1996 (Alder body with a Koa top, uummm!). Your's does look like something you'd expect from a Prestige model with mahogany body, flame maple top and matching headstock veneer, no pickguard and a neck pickup (no ATK bass had a 2nd pickup). I just can't find it in any catalgs. The serial number indicates it would be a 1999 model. Also, the logos on the headstock are not like any I've seen.

It's another mystery. Is this a US model or from another country?

I bought it in the UK in 1999. The switch is a 5 way. Seems like there are a fair few Ibanez's around that don't seem to be mass produced.

This bass very closely resembles the ATK-400 series, which featured the neck pickup, & was mf'd & sold exclusively in Japan (I don't think it's still made any longer, as Ibanez's JP site doesn't list it). You may have a rare find on your hands with this beautiful bass!
