Hi, I found this bass in a local pawn shop, it is an Ibanez short scale bass with semi-hollow body, floating wooden bridge, two pick-ups. The frets and the neck seemed to be ok, I played it and it was pretty comfortable but the amp at the store wasn't very good so I'm not sure about the sound.

The guy at the store wanted 750$ for it. I couldn't find any serial or model number on or in it, the only thing was the Ibanez logo on the headstock, I believe it is a 1969 "Model 1752-4 ?". I don't know if that price is too high or normal, and do you think it would be worth it to get it restored?

(The binding on the head was broken, tuners and the tail piece are a bit rusty, the bridge isn't original, pole pieces of the the pick-ups don't look original and there were a lot of scratches and stains on it. )

Here are the pics: (sorry I don't have any other pics)

Hmmm. Very nice old bass, but like any "Teisco" type bass from the sixties, I have a hard time valuing it above about $300. Maybe Hasy and Harry (our sixties Ibby experts) could value it higher, since it is an Ibanez, after all, but I think the pawn shop guy is dreaming if he wants $750 for it. Tell him to put it on eBay and see what he gets for it. I bet it wouldn't get more than $300, and probably more like $200 - $250.

Re-reading your notes on condition, I wouldn't pay more than $200 for it.

Thanks for the answer. The guy at the store didn't seem like he knew much about guitars, so I guess he though if it's vintage it should be expensive Grin   I just got a new Ibanez AFB200, but I still had my eye on this one. Maybe I'll get it later if he drops the price.

By the way, he also had a bass without any brand name or model on it, which he claimed to be an Eko from 70's (short scale with two single coil pick-ups, small jazz bass/strat type body), is there a forum or site on the internet like here where I can find information about eko basses? (google didn't turn up much)

No-name and obscure-name basses and guitars from Japan abound. Any guitar you can find (or just about any one) with a brand on it like Teisco or Eko or Harmony or Silvertone or Kay can also be found with a dozen other names on them, or no name at all. They are all kind of one large generic lump of guitars and basses. It's not to say that some of them are way cool and command pretty high prices (relatively) but I think your Pawn guy better get off the idea of identifying these and pricing them sky high. They are just MIJ guitars, maybe cool, maybe in good shape, but worth a hundred to a few hundred bucks. No more.

Here's a great site to check out for Harmony (and related) brands:

http://harmony.demont.net/

Vintage Silvertones (very similar to Harmonys):

Here are some cool Teisco guitars:

And don't forget Harry and Hasy's Vintage Ibanez site:

Not to belabor the point, but here's an auction for one of the "holy grails" of Teisco/MIJ collecting:

Ebay Item Number #220213136896

Four days to go and it's at $270 or so. It will end around $400. Here's another someone has listed with a BIN of $750. This one won't get a bid at that price:

Ebay Item Number #160219031286

Thanks for the links, I wasn't very familiar with 60's and 70's guitars so I though they were more rare, but I guess they are all around Smiley  I'll pay another visit to the pawn shop sometime and see how much I can get the guy to drop the prices.

Hi

That`s a cool found, could you send me more pictures of this bass please. Looks like original ibanez to me, the small nails in the metal name plate are the right one. This one is the final fond, now we know, this thinline series got a bass too. Many of the unknown productions in the end of the 60s got a 6-string, 12-sting and the bassguitar.

Price: 300-350 $ could be ok, if its 100 % mint and nothing broken or dammaged. Let me know, whats happened with this bass, i am interessed ............

And once again, a new piece in the big puzzle.   Smiley

Eko is an Italian brand so the Japanese vintage sites won't have any info - try www.fetishguitars.com - they have a huge range of photos, scans & other info about vintage Italian & European brands, including Eko. Don't be surprised if you come away with a fixation with MOTO-covered weirdness with more switches & dials than a 747. Grin

hasy:
It's probably still on sale, I don't think there'll be many buyers around here Smiley   I'll pay another visit to the shop this week or next week, I'll take some more pictures.

bassassin:
thanks for the link, I think I found the Eko bass:

(the one on the right lower corner)

The one I saw at the store didn't have anything written on the headstock and was light blue. It's original pickguard was also missing, I guess someone cut a rough pickguard out of a plastic sheet and nailed it in place.

Hi !

Thx !

Ask him for a offer of 300 $. Tell him the story, the bass would be to stay in a ibanez museum in switzerland !
With many more 60s ibanez guitars and basses :-)
