Ok boys, treated myself to this one for fathers day. Its a Hoshino made model 883 on the Crown label, made probably in 62 or 63. Three bright red single coils with pearloid pickguard. I have an 882 two pickup version on the Ibanez label, and an 884 four pickup version, on the maxitone label, thus completing my collection on this series. Its the first Crown sub-label model Ive encountered{well purchased anyway, Ive seen one or two others. I'll post mo betta pics when she arrives. Happy Fathers day fellas! Bill Grin

Ok, guys, the Crown{Hoshino} 883 has arrived, and some interesting things here...the first picture is my 883 on left and 882 on right. The 883 is missing bridge cover, trem cover and bar, and has had some new tuners put on it, but nice ones, Schallers, which I'll replace with originals. The cool stuff-bright red sparkle pickups, the pearloid pickguard is a tan color, every other one I have is like the 882 to the left, greyish white. The best? Note the dot marker on the guitar on the left...at the 10th fret instead of the 9th where it belongs! Hasy said to watch for these.....here we have one of the earliest Ibanabberations! Some picks for you to enjoy! Grin

Very cool dude......wonder what caused that fret marker to migrate one fret down ? Probably the economy, it seems to be the excuse for everything these days  Grin

Actually its a goof up at the jolly old Tama plant...apparently someone "zinged" when they should have "zanged". All of the first ones off the line in '62 had this problem until someone said "Hey, thats not the ninth fret!" What Id like to know is why all of these early pickups are different colors. I have bright white ones with sparkles, red, clear with silver, and hasy sez theres turquoise ones as well. Heres a list of confirmed Hoshino brands and sub brands that I have in my possession now:

Ibanez, Dixon, Crown, Goldentone, Maxitone, Continental, Kingstone{not to be confused with Teiscos' Kingston},Crown, Stagemaster, Jamboree and Hylo. Note: not every guitar with these labels is Hoshino produced. The model number must be verified. For example the Maxitone label was owned by Bruno, a US distributer that bought from many sources.  Cool

Thats why you've got all the great models you do! Grin We might miss out on a few, but if more members know the sub-brands, when they find something not on the bay, they are gonna let us know. I wonder how many sub branded items go by at yard sales, church raffles, chinese auctions, etc that we never hear about! It might also help to save some of these older guitars from the trash can or even worse...the parts vultures! Sad  You've got two dozen sub brand names.....I better stop dragging my feet and get back to doing my homework! Grin Hasy, do you know anyone that has a model 700 with the pointy headstock? I want to get another one to replace the one I sold. Also, the big pickups that come on the 1902...are those the correct pickups for the 1800 series? Bill

I have a Rockaman classical given to me many years ago and the markers are on the 10th fret. A vintage Aussie guitar player informed me that this was quite common in the late 50's and early 60's. But.. I thought he was referring to classical guits only.
I shall ask.
The dots are only on the side of the fretboard, so the photo doesn't show anything really. Don't know why I put it there. Must have been in a pasting mood.
Anyone else?
