Ibanez - sh*t I'm hooked!!!

« on: July 04, 2009, 05:07:56 AM »

There is a debate going on one of the other forums about the primary use of the black adjustment screws on the Quik change tailpieces on the Custom Artcores like the AS103-NT

I always put these down as fine tuners like your get on a Floyd rose+locking nut setup.
But the thing is non of these guitars have a locking nut, so why use these to fine tune - isn't that a bit overkill??

Then I saw a review (of an AWD102-NT) from some German guy (I think on Harmony Central somewhere) where he stated these were not fine tuners in the traditional sense, but to adjust break angle/pressure over the bridge saddles and reduce string snore.
This made some kind of sense. Undecided
Someone else on the other furum was stating he used these for intonation adjustments, but this clearly so wrong.

There is nothing in any of the (poor excuse for an) instruction manual I have for either my AS103-NT or AWD102-NT, and Ibanez themselves don't seem to be that easy to contact.

So whats the truth brother?? Huh

This is best information found in manuals (AFAIK)

http://www.ibanez.co.jp/world/manual/guitars/guitar2008.pdf#page=18

Intonation is adjusted by moving bridge saddles.

"... but to adjust break angle/pressure over the bridge saddles and reduce string snore."  Huh

Came from here mate:

Cheers for the link. That settles it - fine tuners it is. Did not get that manual with either of my artcores. Just a bit of paper with next to no info on it.

It sounds like a creative second use for the fine tuners. If you use them to raise the level of where the string goes into the tail, it's just like raising the tail itself. But then, why not just raise the tail?
