Sounds like everyone's strapped. Guitar looks awesome though. This economy blows.

This is the time to buy! Take advantage of these deals that will not come very often when things pick up. Estevens, I know how you feel; my 2355 is still available at $975! Well, when it goes I will not say I told you so.

Nobody? not one low baller?

I'm conflicted about buying from fellow ICW members in this kind of market.  I have no issues whatsoever in lowballing on fleabay or CL (in fact I relish it), but that's an open competition so, hey, the lower the better from a buyer's perspective.  I feel very uneasy doing so from someone with whom I share a deep appreciation for these instruments through this forum.  I realize that estevens (or any ICW seller) may, in fact, appreciate the interest shown via an offer of any kind, and I (like all of us, I'm sure) would love to have this astoundingly beautiful 2681, but I'd hate to offend by offering what my wallet can really afford right now.  On the other hand, I'd be sniping with the best of them to get it for less than that on the flea.

There have been plenty of discussions on this forum about the true market value of any given guitar at any given point in time (regarding the AS-120, for example (easy, Ginger, easy Smiley)), and I understand that there is risk in any purchase regardless of the price, but I'm just hesitant about dealing with fellow ICWers under these economic circumstances.

Anyone else have this issue?  Your thoughts?

Nohand I understand your sentiment but its almost like the hottest girl in school who never gets dates because everyone is afraid to ask assuming they will be rejected. It never hurts to ask. Personally i would prefer that a seller puts a price out upfront even if its high rather then fishing. It makes the sellers expectations clear, is less intimidating to the buyer and reduces the chances of ridiculously low offers. Dave and some of the other guys follow that philosophy with a high Buy it now and Best Offer option.

I understand your apprehensions when the circumstances of the economic times can leave us feeling like we have taken advantage of a fellow ICW member. I think the best course of action is to express what you are willing to pay and let the seller have the opportunity to say yes or no. There is no insult in the honest offer of what your wallet can support. When an instrument gets opened up for offers, the responses dictate the value of the day. The seller can always choose to say no.

Granted, later on there may be sellers remorse, but that is the way it goes. No harshness intended... I still get sick when I think that I sold a pristine well played Rick 4003 that carried me through many years of great music. The memory of its aged patina still grabs me. I was in financial straights and can't believe that I NEEDED $450 that bad, but the mortgage was due and bills needed paid...

I don't regret the decision, because I made it with much deliberation, but I wish I still had it...

One thing is for sure guys...guitars are great, we love the sight, sound, and feel of them. They are however, objects, nothing more. The well being of our families come first...what kind of men would we be if they did not. I love my guitars, but there isnt a single one, including my grandads, that I wouldnt give up for my family and their comfort. Its what real men do. Cool

In tough economic times, if a man chooses he needs to sell a prized possession, it's because he NEEDS the cash. In this sense, you would be helping a friend in need in buying the possession. And, when times come back around, the possession is still in reach, should you choose to offer the seller a chance to buy it back. Much better than letting it go off into the wind... unseen again.
