just recently I sold my strat, and privately bought an ash 2617 [feb 78] in good condition, and though what a great guitar, and a week later in the local paper I found an AR500 in mint condition which I also bought, for £280. On reflection I thought it was a bit indulgent,[plus grief from the other half] and passed it on to a friend who is well pleased, and again as I was hunting around, I came across an AS100 [tabacco  virtually unmarked july 82]for which I payed £400. Both guitars play beautifully, and I am now starting to regret passing on the AR500. As I am a novice on the Ibanez scene, my question is, which is most collectable the AR500 or the AS100?
p.s. the 2617 and the AS100 get well gigged thro a Mesa Boogie mk3 and sound really something,[great website].  Paddy.

Congrats on your new acquisitions! Can you post pics so we can see? Sorry I can't answer your collector questions though.

 Hi Paddy,

The AR500 and the AS100 are both very fine guitars. The AR500 is a more upscale instrument than the AS100. I would be having second thoughts about passing it on if I were you!

The AS100 has an upscale brother called the AS200 which is more ornate with figured timbers. It is the guitar used by John Scofield.

I own an AS100, and an Artist 2622Eq which I guess is the '70's version of your AR500.
Both are great guitars.

Welcome to the world of Ibanez.

Regards,

Mark

thanks for the replies guys, I will put some pics on in a week or so, [will have to borrow a camera], the AR500 was oct 78 and has already gone, I knew I made a mistake.
But in all honesty I really wanted a semi, and I am a big Schofield and Ritenuer fan.
The 2617 is much more agressive sound wise, with more top and bottom, but the AS100 is smoother, and will take quite a lot of volume before acoustic feedback, although the bridge pickup does scream at high levels.
I may think about changing pickups on the AS100,[keeping the originals of course],I wonder If there are any that work well on the semi.

Paddy.
