Ebay Item Number #270302439544 Now this is the kind of auction style I like to see. Opening bid $.99 NO RESERVE Buyitnow $1995 with free shipping. Michaelsmusic IMO is known for charging high prices...but on this one, it looks quite reasonable. And if you don't like the buyitnow, hit that NO RESERVE 99 cents opening bid, and turn it into a true auction. Good luck.

Ibaneezer - You haven't watched too many Michael's Music auctions I take it. He has a nasty habit of ending his listings early if they don't generate the kind of bids he's looking for. Luck is not a factor - if the bids aren't high enough - he pulls the item. He does this all the time. I'll take a reserve auction over this nonsense anytime. EDIT - If you don't believe me - here's a LIST of all his completed listings. Have a look at how many have been "ended early" for a whole litany of reasons - all of which I'm sure are totally legit and on the up and up. mMMmm - sure . . .

Yeah...I believe you.
That is the other dirty trick...
Friend of mine owns a music store...and he ends his auctions early if the bids aren't high enough.
The problem with reserve auctions...if you're not willing to bid and retract to determine the reserve...is that you're on the hook for a week never knowing if you have a fair chance to buy the item. Unless the reserve eventually is met in the auction and then known.
Without that it becomes a guessing game.

One other advantage of the buyitnow, you know his highest price...$1995. Now factor in that Michealsmusic is also a dealer...
You can email or call him at make a reasonable off Ebay offer...and see just how flexible he is in price and terms.
The guitar is already for sale outside of Ebay...so wheeling and dealing is easier here than dealing with a private party on Ebay.
Who knows...he may be having a day to day cash problem...so may be quite flexible on that given day.
If you really want the guitar, it never hurts to ask...
Use a credit card to pay...and all should be well.

There's nothing wrong with flipping IMHO. That's just plain smart - if you know what you're doing. But I agree that what Michael's Music does when it comes to ending auctions early because of low bids is very lame. Ebay is the enabler here - so they're culpable in this. No question.
The problem I have with probing a seller's reserve by bidding and then retracting the bid is it's not exactly ethical. It's also a great way to get your ebay account suspended.

I agree...but use a different account to sell it.

I agree...
Ebay only protects Ebay...

I disagree...
Neither is breaking the speed limit, but we do it all the time. Neither will have you burn in @!##. As for suspension....clear your cookies and use a different throwaway ID.

Hey if that's the way you feel that's your business I guess. It's funny though - it's this same "anything we can get away with" mentality that has Wall St. - the economy - and the whole world in the fine financial mess it's in. Not that any of that is your fault or anything. The folks who made that mess probably do deserve their own special, extra hot corner of @!## IMHO. But that's just me.

I look at life this way...
There are little sins and there are big sins...
Little sins hurt no one...but big sins do.
Wall Street is a big sin...So is American Politics...
I don't do the big sins.
The other thing you must realize is that all laws are man made...so sometimes things do get a little absurd.
Case in Point...
As a Catholic I could not eat meat on Friday, when I was a kid...because it was a Mortal Sin and you would go straight to @!##.
So...the Pope declared one day that it no longer was a mortal sin to eat meat on Friday and you would not burn in @!##...
My question to the Pope...
Hey, is that retroactive?

What's the deal with the missing pickguards lately? Are they all disintegrating?

Before purchasing such a guitar, I would seriously inquire about the binding. I once had a guitar that was stored in it's case for over 20 years. The owner boasted about how prestine the guitar was since it hadn't been taken out of it's case. When I carefully inspected the guitar, the binding was cracking all over. I showed it to the owner and nocked off $400.00 from his asking price. It probably would have cost more to replace the binding but I really liked how it played. Bottom line, the same reaction that is produced from having a guitar stored in it's case for a long time without breathing will affect the binding as well as the pickguard.
