Hello,I bought Ibanez Byrdland from 70s.I`ve been told it has ebony fingerboard and solid top.It has Gibson logo(flower pot or torch)exactly like Gibson Byrdland. It has Super 70s pickups and sounds wonderfull. If it would not stand Ibanez on the headstock,I would believe it was Gibson.Do you know anything about this guitar(I`ve never seen Ibanez with such Gibson logo on Headstock)

Pepek,

Please post several pictures of your Ibanez Byrdland for us to see.  Include closeups of the Headstock & Logo.
This is the best way for us to assist you.

 Hi Pepek!

I think there's a little bit of confusion here: the "flower pot" or "vase with flames" is just a decorative inlay in the headstock and NOT a logo. The logo is just the brand name and I think on your guitar it says "Ibanez" and not "Gibson", doesn't it?
Before 1976 Ibanez used the same decorations on the headstock as Gibson did: Split Diamonds, Crowns and Flowerpot. From 1976 on these inlays were changed, as did the shape of the headstock. I guess your guitar has no serial number and the old "open book" headstock shape?
Anyway: an Ibanez Birdland replica is quite a valuable guitar.
Please show us some pictures!
Greetz,
Harry

Hello,my mistake. It has "open book" headstock with Ibanez logo,"flower pot" and no serial number.I´ll try to borrow camera and make some photos, because guitar is a real beauty.I have some toughts to change pickups(I have original Gibson Paffs from 1961 and Gibson Classic 57s).What do you think about that? Greetings Pepek

 Pepek:

You and I have already conversed a little on the RMMGJ newsgroup. I've included parts of our conversation here, so that you won't have to repeat yourself.

"...I have Ibanez Byrdland 70s (lawsuit) with the carved top and Super 70S picks, and it sounds better than my Gibson ES-175 and Guild Artist Award with Benedetto outfit...My Byrdland is model 2464S and have even the Gibson torch in logo(2464 do not have it).You should really see this guitar. It`s almoust mint with unbelievable back and sides. It works very fine with Fender Twin black face as with Evans JE-150(I preffer Black face better)."

I am very envious, I've been looking for a solid top Ibanez Jazz box from the 70s. Please send some pictures of your's, when possible.

I wouldn't switch the pickups, unless you really feel that the originals are deficient. If you do swap them out, don't do anything that you can not undo. And save the original pickups, so that should you ever sell it, a collector will want to put them back in.

How did you acquire this guitar? What country are you in?

 Six:

I'm not sure what the color is, but the "S" stands for "solid top", not a color. See my new thread: "Solid Top Ibanez Jazz Boxes" for more info.
