Good deal...for you.

FG100 can be found regularly on EBAY for not much money.

AM400...rarely comes up for auction.

I have only seen 3 in the last 7 years.

I do the deal.

Am400 is rare, however, as a jazzer, the FG100 is the way to go.  Very good value.

If that was the question...

In this case, the FG100 was already up for sale.

Now if he had asked...I have a choice of buying two Ibanez guitars...and AM400 or an FG100...

Then the first thing to ask would be...what style do you play?

If traditional jazz, buy the FG100  Wink

thank you for your replies.

im a jazzer but i already have a guitar that suits perfectly to me. an ibanez 2630 from 78.
the other guitar i have is fg100 that i want to trade for  am 400 and im asking just the value of am 400 vs fg100 to know if its a resonable deal.
nothing to do with the stye i play, just marketing.
and which one is easier to sell fg100 or am 400?
i dont know this things because im a player and know nothing about market. a guy just wants my fg100 to play jazz and he is giving me his am 400 in excange.

thanks

Hi there, Makisono.
Welcome (in case I forgot... )

I think that the AM400 is harder to find, and harder to replace.
Personally I really dig the white one. A friend of mine has an AM400WH.

I was negotiating with a student about a sunburst 8 years ago.
We agreed on a price, but he was at his study address.
We made an appointment at his home address and before I left to pick it up, he had accepted a higher offer and the guitar was gone.
Anyway, since then I saw 1 AM400 offered in Holland. I think it was some sort of black, or black metallic. He got a bid of EUR 750 from a certain John, which he declined for quite a while and then after some weeks it was gone.
That was the ONLY one in 8 years and not even in a color that I wanted!

An FG100 is for sale in Holland every now and then. At the moment there's one for sale in Houten (since 17 Aug.). Seller wants EUR 1150.- but the highest bid was 600 after 4 days (21 Aug). Since then nothing happened.

So, if the color is right I would close the deal. But that's my opinion. I already have 2 L-5 types and two ES-175 types. So the AM400 adds something to the spectrum.

hey thanks

this am 400 is green with nice birdseye.
i also think that maybe AM 400 would be easier to sell because they are rare. but fg100 prices have gone up a lot. in italy there is one fopr 1500e one for 1200e. but am 400 there is one for 900e so i thought i can get more from fg 100 than am 400 but anyway as you say you can ask as much as you want , depends how much you get for it.
this is why i came here to you guys to hear your oponions. anyway i will sell the guitar or my fg100 or am 400 if i decide to do an excange.
they guy needs a jazz guitar and i need money Wink for an acoustic. and as i said for jazz my 2630 works perfectly

you are great

Personally, I think a pricey AM400 is harder to sell.  Not to diss the AM400, however, it's somewhat of an oddball guitar in size & shape.  It's a pretty unique piece, and that's the issue.  You'll find many more potential buyers of an FG100 because people think they know what they're getting, and, at a lower cost.  I would think the pool of prospective AM400 is smaller because the guitar is somewhat of an unknown, it costs significantly more and it's a late 80's model (which, right or wrong, will turn some people off).  I think less people will be willing to spend more money for something unknown.

However, GAS does strange things...

My 2 cents.

In the Netherlands we have very little real jazz players.
Selling full acoustic jazz boxes here is more difficult than in Italy.
The AM400 is a more versatile instrument, and can be used in any band for any kind of music, just like a Les Paul, but lighter.

One of the 4 Ps in marketing is Place.
Another is Price.
They are related.

So actually you want to flip the AM400 in order to buy an acoustic?
What kind of acoustic do you have in mind? Roll Eyes

Both are easy to sell....

If you price them right  Wink

Most sellers tend to get greedy, and want maximum dollar for their gear.

In the end, when it does not sell...they lower the price.

Priced right any Ibanez will sell reasonably quick.

Priced too low...it will sell within minutes on Ebay.
