My old GB10 and my 1978 FA100 have that type of nut.

What exactly is the reason for the half brass nut?

Interesting... What about the pickups? No flying fingers? What do you have on yours? Looks great with a pickguard as well, mine doesn't have one...

I have a question about the pickguard... If it is original, how do you know if it is going to have that "gassing" problem? Is there any way to know without the visual aspects of it popping up first?

Sorry, I know this has been discussed somewhere before.

If you take it out of the case at least once a month to air it out....

You will not have the gassing deterioration on the surrounding parts.

The pickgaurd though will still "evaporate" over time.

Hope that makes sense.

Sorry Wakuhn...

I misread your question.

You want to know just what the pickguard is made of...

Anybody...correct me if I am wrong here.

It is the old pickgaurds made of acetate...same material as in celluloid guitar picks...the tortoise shell ones...like Fender.

Certain solvents will dissolve it.

It also burns very fast leaving no molten pools of plastic.   And has an acrid smell when it burns.  It leaves ash when burned.

So...both tests would be destructive.

Also if the pickguard does not have a tortoise shell pattern, it is unlikely that it is the gassing kind.
