The PM120 of Pat  has only neck pu,and has Roland hexaphonic synthesizer pickup
Here a video of pat playing with a normal  production PM120 model  (in a musical situation a little  strange)
BTW,nice playing and song Petruz Wink
brand of the 335 that you use in the video?
Nice guitar by the way

With all due respect...and no disrespect to you, stbatz...

That video sucks!

Song is boring...I heard high school kids who can play and sing better.

And Pat...

His sound is so digitally processed, he may as well be playing a solid body guitar.

His sound is becoming very generic...much like all the LA studio musicians...with their endlessly processed tones.

Pat is a monster guitarist...but his tone cannot be distinguished from the guitars he plays.

OK, the reason of post this video, does not have to do with its artistic value
the reason is to see Pat in one of the rare opportunities in that is seen  playing with a PM120 stock model, and yes, the song does not exist, and probably the participation of Pat has to do with contractual subjects
As it is, I am always careful at the time of criticizing to a great musician and composer like Mr Metheny,by all means, it is only my point of view, and as so he is debatable

If IBz made a rep of Pats PM20 .... I'd buy one

I suppose a FG100 is about the closest thing
but I dig the aesthetic of that one PU guitar

I think Pat was spot on when he spec'd that ax !

I couldn't disagree more!  Have you even listened to his latest release "Road Trip"?  I can tell you the songs in which he's using a Roland G-303 and when he's using his Ibanez Electrics (and I'm not referring to when he kicks on the GR-300).  His sound has mellowed out since his early years, but I think it defines where Pat is at this point and time with his music.  His early music has the classic trebly/bell-like ES-175 tone that got me really interested in jazz in the first place.  His later music shows his maturity as a composer and a musician.  There is a definite change in his tone since he switched, but I'd say it's far from being processed.

What's the saying..? if you don't have anything nice to say...Smiley

How do I select a small section to quote???

"His sound is becoming very generic...much like all the LA studio musicians...with their endlessly processed tones."

I also have an opnion about that. That quote could also be reversed in that many studio musicians try to emulate Pat's sounds. (Many try, but can't quite get it.)

I personally like the way his sound has evolved from his early days. I think "Secret Story" was one of the best ever. The guitar sounds and playing on that album still mezmerize me. From the Roland synth sounds, to acoustic, to electric. I believe he used the PM100 and Gibson 175 when recording that album. Great music!

I have followed Pat's career from the earliest days...when he was playing with Gary Burton and Mick Goodrick.   Prior to that, the monster guitarist in Gary's group was Jerry Hahn.

Pat's landmark album in 1976 had his signature sound...very processed.   I loved the album...still do.   But many jazz players including Joe Pass remarked that that digital delay on his tones was getting somewhat tiresome.

And that is the tone that makes his playing so recognizable...but frankly...you can get that sound with a solid body guitar.

All you need is the right kind of equalization and sound processors.

Pat is a great guitarist...

But back in 1976, by his own admission...he could not pick his way out of a paper bag.  All that fast playing was legato pulloffs.   His right hand severely restricted.   He then practiced his @!## off...right hand...doing scales and arpeggios...and got his pickup up to speed.   This all from interviews with him by trade mags back in the late 1970's and early 1980's.

Most of you guys are simply too young to remember him when he was a little wet behind the ears.

I really don't care what you say...it's just that from your previous posts, you mainly only have negative things to say.  It gets old real quick.
