Nice; I've had one of these since 1978 - slight difference, mine has a scroll-type tailpiece rather than the bar-style pictured here. Jeez, I've owned this guitar for longer than some of my work colleagues have been on this earth.......

It's currently up for sale on UK E-Bay, item #3731837551 - if I'd found this forum earlier I would have posted details in the Classifieds, but as it is, anyone with an interest will have to be quick - auction closes in less than 2 days!

I shall take some more pics of my SA400 before it leaves me, and post them here.

BTW, according to the original catalogue (scan posted in the 1978 section at
http://www.ibanez-vintage-page.de/ ), the SA400 has an internal 'anti-feedback bar' which I think translates as 'Yes, there's a block inside'

 Hi Graham,

Does it say SA400 inside the "F" hole?

If not, I would say that your guitar is a 2457 model with transitional features. I strongly believe that the SA400 has its origins in the 2457 model which, in its self, is a copy of the Gibson ES355.

Check out a few threads on the 2457 here on the site and tell us what you think?

Regards

Thanks for the additional information Graham.

I've only ever seen pictures of the SA400 with its usual quick change stop tailpiece like the guitar in the pic above and as found on the AS200 class.

Grahams guitar has a trapeze tailpiece. The 2457 traditionally came with the replica Maestro trem.

Could be that the factory experimented with the Trapeze and then decided on the stop tail for the SA400 instead?

Note that Grahams guitar has a script logo where as Lakesiders guitar appears to have the block logo.

Terrific guitar Graham. Would you mind posting some pics of your guitar up here for us?

Cheers

Here's a few pictures of my 'other' SA-400CH

An overall view of the body

1,body

Same again, with emphasis on the tailpiece, which seems to be the major difference from Lakesider's...

2,bodytail

The control section

3,controls

The peghead detail

4,peghead

and finally, the whole machine in the case

5,incase

Enjoy!

 Hello all,

I am new to this forum and I can’t say how happy I am to finally find some info on these guitars.  I was starting to think I had the only one in the world!

I have one of these in a Walnut finish. It is an sa400wn. I will take a few pictures and post them up here soon.

By the way, this guitar is awesome. A friend of mine writes for Guitarist magazine (UK) and still considers this to be one of the best guitars he has ever played.

I have tried it in front of a number of new and vintage Amps including an Orange AD30, a Budda Verbmaster and my early 70's Marshall Lead & Bass 50 Combo. It blows me away every time.

The sweetest clean chimes, the fattest riffs and the warmest blues tones can all be achieved at the flick of a switch. This is one versatile guitar and for the £300 I paid for it, a bargain.

Pics to follow soon.

 Hi Ali,

I'm in the UK too. As you can see from the pictures above and a few others spread over the forum, the SA400 came in a number of variations.

We woould be very interested to see your pictures.

Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Hi Grc, I have the walnut version of that guitar the sa400WN and have had it since new. I think I got it in 1980 or 1981.
I haven't played it for years but I plan to take it down to Jaydee Custom guitars soon and get it setup nicely for me to use ad I want to use it for jazz and blues.
