Here's a request for info on an older Semi-hollow Ibanez from a member named Paulo in Portugal: Here is Paulo's message: Hello. Sorry for my bad English, but the reason i'm doing this is that i'm very courious about mine Ibanez. I'm portuguese, i'm 40 years old and i own a ibanez guitar since 1977. she was already a used guitar at the time. Now, with this picture i'm sending to you, i think you'll be able to tell me what i wont to know for years. Model of this ibanez and year of fabrication....there is a rectangular metal, in the back, where it says only JAPAN. Can anybody shed some light on Paulo's vintage Ibanez?

Paulo, Because of the hook on the horns I would say it's model 1910 thinline,a sort of GibsonES-335 and acording to Guitar Stories Vol 1 was available in the U.K. in 1971 and possibly earlier.I have a Ibanez catalog from 1973 and the 1910 isn't in there or anything with the hooked horns so I would say it's between '69 and '72.I hope this helps and if you ever want to sell that beauty feel free to let us know.

Paulo: I agree with Chris. Here's the picture of the 1910 Thinline from Guitar Stories Vol. I. Chris: Good eye!

Thank's a lot Chris and Jonh. Finally i know "what" i have been playing with for such a long time. She still sounds great. Some pieces are missing (tremolo harm (?), the black protection support...) but i love it. How rare she

Paulo, It's the only one I've seen other than the one in Guitar Stories and it's production seems to be short lived so I would think she's relativly rare and hard to find model.

Paulo, Because there isn't enough of them out in the open market there isn't any way to set a "going price" but I myself would start at $500. and see where it would go.It is rare and you may be surprised what some collectors will pay.I've gotten some great deals that I couldn't understand and I've seen some go so high that I couldn't believe it.You just never know.

Paulo, I have a 1910 also. I bought it at an EBAY auction about a year ago. It did not have a bridge when I bought it so I got a gibson style bridge that is gold and also added a diferent tail piece from a gibson es 135 and these worked great. This is a real nice guitar! Since the bridge and tail pieces were gold I also got some gold covers for the pickups and put gibson style tuneing machines on so all the hardware matches. I really like the different type of feedback I get out of this guitar. I use Dean Markley cyrogenic medium strings 11-52 and replace the 52 with a 46. I use this string combination on most of my guitars but am thinking of trying some different strings to try and find a new sound. What kind of strings do you use?

Paulo, OH yeah. I paid $175 for it and suspect it to be valued at at least $500. Hey John S. I also have a Goldentone like the one featured in the Guitar Stories vol. 1. Thing is I had no Idea what it was when I bought it for $20 at a pawn shop back in 1996. I was just buying it for the pickups. After I scrounged the pickups I tossed the control panel. About a month after that I was at Barnes and Noble and found Guitar stories and saw my guitar in there. I also saw the 1910 in there and told myself If I ever found one I would buy it. That Guitar Stories book is a real good resource for Ibanez stuff.

Orval, I only need to have the control panel --chrome part with 4 vol and 4 tone pots and maybe a switch or two on it-- The body finish has been striped and where the bridge mounts to the body will need to be modified/rigged to make it work right. I do have the original tailpice/tremlo and the pick guards one of wich that has "custom made by Hy-Lo" on it. The neck is OK but since I've never had it set up to play I'm not sure how it would feel.

Another strange old semi. There are so many threads that I didn't want to start a new one this time. So, this is still hanging at a small local music store in Helsinki. It didn't actually feel too good, might be from age when Ibanez was not too serious about making good guitars. The pickup covers (maybe even pickups themselves) are obviously made afterwards. Didn't try this with an amp, so don't know about them. You guys ever seen one? -Aki.
