Ebay Item Number #280281494656

Original pickguard too. High BIN, but he's taking offers. It would be great if the 2630's were holding the line at $1,500.

Edit: LOL. I now see it's one of Dave_g's! That just adds to the provenance.

(And, though I probably shouldn't add this: Take notice, Triumph, et al. We comment on ALL AUCTIONS, even Dave's. I didn't edit my original comment on the price after finding out it's his auction. And, even if I had written something like, "Is this guy CRAZY?Huh?" I don't think Dave would have freaked out.)

Woohoo! It's mine. Selling my 78 has been one of my biggest guitar-related regrets, even if I did get double what I'd paid for it. I can't wait for this sucker to get here!

Formula....You got a smoking deal on this one ! Its one of the early ones so that the color is way lighter than the browish ones in '78.   Drop me a line once you have had a chance to run it thru an amp..

Hey all:

Did anything ever come of the run of 2630 pickguards that were going to be made earlier this year? Remember that guy found one that hadn't gassed and a few guys were going to get together and have new ones made?

Edit: nevermind-I found the thread and contacted Kerry. He's got enough material left to make a few more, so if anybody else is interested, let him know.

I have a '79 2630, which I'm really nuts over!  Sounds great through a (BillM moded)Blues Jr.  It doesn't have the pickguard or original pick~ups.  This dude above makes pickguards I take it?  Also...are the original pu's hard to find?  I'd like to get a set.  Lastly, does the installation of a Bigsby adversely affect the value?  Thanks...Ron!

I am the new guy, but let me venture a guess:

Yes
ebay?
Yes.

What pickups are you running? If it sounds great, why mess with it? Post pics!!!!!!!!!!! Wink

I think it's a great player, but like it says in the description, it's been sitting for quite some time and needs a bit more setup work. I'm probably going to pull the Super 80s in favor of something a little less microphonic, but I'll hold onto them for reinstalling if I want to sell it in the future. They sound good but I do run a bit of gain and I can't handle the squeal. How can I tell if they're epoxy potted vs wax? I remember my old one's pickups were black underneath and these are yellow and kind of soft. The reproduction pickguard from Mr. Kerry is incoming. I also need to round up a set of 4 Sure Grip 1s, but they pop up from time to time on the bay. Wish me luck.

The early Super 80's werent epoxy or wax...that beige looking soft material will actually turn into a clear liquid when heated (looks like honey but acts like napalm)-it should control the squeal, but thats always a problem with the semi's and high gain pups...The black bottom super 80's were a later issue and the potting material was clear-I remember being able to see the "guts" of the pickup thru that material-I think they came much later than 1977 though.

You dont have to replace that pickguard, unless you like the look of the bound pickguard.....

I'm sending you a set of SGI's, hopefully you will feel better about owning this fine guitar.....

FWIW guys, I left Dave a positive feedback but didn't do the stars. I was a bit peeved about some things that weren't factory, but that had no bearing on the feedback I left-I thought I was leaving good feedback.  Undecided I didn't know they were that important...I haven't done them for anybody I've bought anything from SINCE THEY STARTED USING THEM when leaving feedback. I thought a rating of positive was enough. When I think about all those dudes who sold me everything from Keystone Centercaps to cheapo guitar parts and the possibility of having screwed them all in total ignorance, I'm utterly ashamed.

This is my public apology, Dave. I still hope your will is good and rest assured, I will put this thing through its paces like the monster guitar it is.

Oh-and Dave, does that mean that these can be repotted in some fashion? Can they, perchance, be heated, this stuff dumped out, and then repotted with beeswax and paraffin? The stockers in my IC are the same way, and it's definitely a solidbody  Cheesy

What are the non-factory parts on the 2630 besides the pick-guard? Huh

Formula...I suppose they can be repotted, but the problem is once the material is melted, the pickup basically falls apart-its that material that holds the mounting plate in place-you then have a napalm encrused gooey mess to contend with-not for the faint of heart........

Ace....the knobs and one of the surrounds ....total brainfart on my part for not mentioning the knobs in the auction (lately this forum has become the SGI forum-were paying more attention to those knobs than the guitars !).  Im making it right buy sending a set off of another guitar (a lowly PF100)...

Well, that's a bummer about the pickups. They sound great aside from the microphonics. I'll probably throw a set of EMGs in there...and a Floyd...

Just kidding! I have a set of freshly potted Super 70s that would fit the bill nicely. Again, I'll be holding onto the stockers so I can return it to stock at a later date if I so desire, so no worries, guys! I'm not going to ruin it...

Well, maaaaybe a Kahler...lol
