I recently had someone replace the stock Super 80's with Super 58's. The Super 58's have 4 wires: black, red, blue & yellow.

Ibanez has wiring diagrams for 2-wire & 4-wire 58's. All of the 4-wire diagrams use a 3-way toggle. The 2-wire diagrams do not.

The problem is that the guitar does not have 3-way toggles and since the 58's were installed, I've noticed that they sound like single coils (which is interesting and not necessarily bad), and they are rather noisy. Depending on the angle in which I hold the guitar, the hum varies from almost no hum to a rather loud hum.

Questions: how does one wire a 4-wire Super 58 without toggles? Also, I have available (2) 3-way toggles taken from an older Artist (Ar-300?). Would I be better off installing the toggles or rewiring without the toggles. Does anyone know of someone good in the NYC/Westchester are who can do this work?

2nd issue: my pots are getting rather noisy. Can this be addressed without replacing the pots? If they need to be replaced, what do I do?

 How do I post photo's?

I have both Diagrams I can post. I think that the pickups are wired up wrong. It should be  

Blue is hot
Yellow and Red go togther and are taped off, Do not let them touch ground

Black Is ground.

Wiring with or without toggles is up to you, It makes no difference it just adds more tonal options. (Series, Parallel, Single coil)

Try to use CRC electronic cleanr and spray it in the small open area on the back of the pot, usually before you do turn the pot up and down about 30 times to loosen any crud then spray.

To replace these you need to find long shaft pots, They are not so easy to find. Gibson's will work. The ones Ibanez sells now are not as good as the 40502's That company went out of business a few years back (Or so they told me) I found the same pots in Japan still new at a Shimamura Music in Tokyo.

btw...still no luck w/ the UE-700 footswitch, so it looks like I will adapter a different Marshall or Boogie footswitch.  Ibanez was no help.

 Here's what it looks like I have:

Blue & shield - connected to rear of volume pot.  Yellow - connected to volume pot connector that in turn is connected to a green diode(?) and then to the middle connector on the tone pot.

The red & black are taped together and not touching anything.

Looks like the guy f'd up.

According to your previous post, yellow & red are taped off an go nowhere.  Black is ground.  Should it go to the back of the volume pot along with the shield?  Should the blue go where my yellow is now?

btw...the tone pots are 504042's.  The volume pots end in 072.  I cannot read the complete # as they are covered w/ soldier.

I used it, and the info you gave me, and rewired the pickups.  It worked!!!!  No more buzzing/noise.  The sound is much thicker too...definitely full humbucker how.

Question:  I did like the single coil sound...if I want to install my toggles, how does that get wired?  Will the toggles from an Artist (AR300?)  work in the Bob Weir?  Are they the right size?  Do you know of anyone in the NY area that can do this?

 The Pot number sare the correct one, I was tired and typed the wrong numbers.

Yes Ground is connected to the pot.

For the single, Those two wires that are taped off will get connected to a switch, Tthe other end of teh switch is connected to Ground, When you hit the switch it sends one coil to ground.
