What the heck is this thing?

I have a 1987 Japanese Roadstar, s/n F7071.  Floyd Rose trem, locking nut, 3 p/u toggle switches, 1 vol and 1 tone control.  IBZUSA pickups, single coil in neck & mid positions, humbucker at the bridge.  Maple neck, rosewood fretboard, black body.  Very thin neck, jumbo frets.  Plays and sounds like an absolute dream.

What model is it?!

The tables I've seen show 1987 Roadstars with 5-way switches, not separate toggles.  I can't find a model number anywhere on the guitar.

It's a fabulous guitar and I'll never do it justice, but I sure do love playing this babe.  I'd just like to know what it is.

Can anybody help me identify this thing?

Thanks!

Ed -

In-focus, close-up, and well lit images would help a lot.

To upload images, post a new reply and expand the +Additional Options...

Thanks,

Sounds like a 1988 Roadstar Pro Saber 540S. Probably made in 1987 but showed up in the 1988 catalog. Check out this link http://t3-kundenserver.de.dedi661.your-server.de/htmlpages/redasys/_core/databases/t_meinl-uploads/1988_roadstar_pro_saber.pdf.

No, that's not it.  The body is much thicker, not tapered at the bottom, and the 1/4" jack is on the edge of the guitar, not the face, just an inch or two from the endpin.

Any other ideas?

Thanks for the help!

Ed

BTW - I'm also confused by the s/n.  I know F7X..... denotes a Japanese guitar made in 1987, and I think X would indicate the month.  Mine is F70...., though, so what does the 0 mean?

It may be a Power 540. The early 540 came in three models, the Saber, the Radius and the Power. Take a look at this flyer:

Half-fast player:

Here's some pictures of the 1987 Roadstar II Pro540 Power. Does this look familiar?

Yep!  That looks like it!  The vol and tone knobs are different, but they could've been replaced.  I suspect the tone pot has been replaced, because it only seems to have any effect in the bottom 1/8 of travel.

Can anyone tell me anything about these guitars?  How long made, how many made, original price, artists using, etc.?

This is a truly wonderful guitar with a terrific action and a great sound.  I'm sure I'll never replace it, because I've never found anything else that plays this well.  Sometimes it feels like the guitar is playing itself and I'm simply along for the ride.

Much thanks for the help!
