Hi  All:

This amp is listed incorrectly. The (a) Series has very cool and quiet
built in effects: tremelo, chorus and a dynamite echo. The delay can be set
so long that you can hit a note, go out and get a cup of coffee, and then
return before the 1st echo starts....

Ebay Item Number #260274767139

Reasonable price, but the buy now is steep ($599).

Once again, a great versatile amp if you know how to get
the sounds you want and you're a "tone freak" (like myself)
-- from Metallica  and ZZ and Van Halen to Jim Hall and Early Clapton al a "Beano".

I had the yamaha dg 80 1x12 amp, it does have killer sounds but i could not get used to the mechanical knobs, i used it on a few gigs and bailed, the amp i love right now is an EVANS FET 500 LV, 200 watts rms, 1x12, solid state, spring reverb, awesome sounds from a non tube amp, check em out, jazzzz

Hi Jazzbo:

Thanks for the suggestion re. the Evans.  I'm not familiar with the name, but I'm not one for reading guitar or recording magazines (other than Mix) or keeping up with the latest technology or fads -- not to suggest the Evans is the lattermost...more like -- I'm out-of-touch with the planet other than my family, my teaching/student clientele and my studying music. Any "names" use it? (Not that that matters much for "testimonial" purposes...more like so I could hear what sounds like in the hands of a master -- no pun intended).

As an aside, I've been using the DG-80 for about a decade now and totally love it. I have one for my teaching studio and one for live performance and recording. (The knobs never really bothered me, but I frowned when I 1st saw them...they struck me like a power window on a car -- they could oooh and aaaah a 13 year old, a car fanatic, or a yuppie...  but they're totally unnecessary and something add'l that could go wrong.)

But I am curious. I'm a versatile player am into everything from Son House to Scofield -- compositionally and improvisationally. I have a spring reverb in my Pre-CBS (blackface) Fender Super Reverb; sometimes the spring's not the sound I want; hence the versatility of the DG-80 and the hall reverb...(And I don't like effects pedals....they pretty much just sound too artificial. I like a "natural" sounding amp and the Yamaha -- though digital -- comes pretty close...)

But I will check out the amp on line to see what's going on with it.

Thank you again for taking the time, concern and trouble to drop me a line.

Am pressed at the moment; I have to go teach.

tbc

Best,

HI , from what i can tell , the EVANS AMPS, were first built almost hand made for  STEELE guitar players, they , evans,  had alot to do with FET, technology, its a fancy way of saying the transistors sound close to tube amps, anyway, Evans then starting making amp  for guitarists, I read some reviews in Harmony central and have watched the bidding, sales, etc on flea bay, craigslist etc, SO far i am very happy with this amp, my reasoning was, it would be a good idea to have one really  good clean amp, without the hassles of tubes, and of course one or more tube amp,. Just to let you know , my other amp is an original FENDER DELUXE REVERB AMP, which i purchased new in 1963 or there abouts, so , i have been through alot of amps. My Evans fits the bill perfectly, it has its own sound which i like, it has plenty of power, has many features, so , you should do a web search and try to find the article about the FET regarding my FET 500 CUSTOM LV. The newer series amps are pretty pricey, but they do pop up once in awhile on fleabay, cheers, jazzzz

Hi Jazzbo:

Thank you for the detailed reply re. the Evans amps.

I looked into the amp on line, but no local stores within a 80 miles of where I live carry them.
From what I've gathered online, all the amps have a very warm, clean sound geared towards the traditional Jazz guitarist.

I rarely play traditional Jazz jobs and when I do I still like to play with just -- at times -- a slightly
discernable amount of distortion when I pick harshly (That's the Blues player in me I guess).

Anyway now I do have the name Evans in my head -- with which before your mentioning it I was completely unfamiliar. In the future if there is a need for my going down the traditional Jazz and Swing route and sound -- and I've done that before in my late 20's (Jim Hall, Kenny Burrell, Wes, Charlie Christian, Herb Ellis and Duke Robillard) -- I will give the Evans line a serious try.

Thanks again for your suggestions and expertise Jazzbo.

Sincerely,
Allears
