Did any of the Ibanez electric guitars from the mid-70s come with an Antique Violin finish?

If yes, will someone please post both front and back-side images?

Or, e-mail the images to me at peterdryan@yahoo.com?

The backside images of the body and neck are what I am most interested in seeing.

Thank you in advance.

What's your cutoff date for 'mid 70's?  I presume you're not talking about Artists?

Heck, let's expand the range a bit.

Let's say 1977 and earlier.

Any model Ibanez electric.

AV finishes pre 1978 tend to be "stripy", especially on the back, and show very little "sunbursting" on the front, IMO.

Is there an actual burst on the back of the body like on the front?

Or is it dependent upon model or year?

Didn't AV come with Artists (first antique brown burst)?
Before there was Brown Sunburst. Looks like CA's sides had burst. Bottom? Anyone have '75 CA?

http://www.ibanez.co.jp/anniversary/expansion.php?cat_id=4&now=1

Mandolins had burst all around  Wink

http://www.ibanez.co.jp/anniversary/expansion.php?cat_id=13&now=2

As far as I remember it right (semi)hollows had burst all around them and with solidbodies it depends on model (and year?).

Thanks, Juha.

BTW: I saw the photos in your link for the Artwood 2408-x triplets.

Are those the mysterious Dragon, Eagle, and whatever that I hear whispered about in hallowed tones?

I guess Black Eagle is most common of them, but rare, and you can find it by ICW search. Somebody bought one recently and Chuck restored one. Others are so rare that you can hardly find other pictures of them except one Dragon (my memory?) was discussed here (eBay auction). Yes, 2408s are mysteries to us Ibanez newbies.

When I said "Eagle" I didn't mean the Black Eagle bass.

The 3 carved top 2408s all had different designs.

I found this posting from a thread in the ICW archives:

These were part of the Ibanez Custom Series made in 1974.  This series included the Custom Agent and the Black Eagle bass.  The carved guitars were the Artwoods, with bodies carved in Taiwan.  I'm not sure, but I suspect this was at the same place as the Arias, but don't know (Aria-made dragons also turned up with the Univox brand).  The No. 2408-1 was carved with a dragon.  The Artwood No. 2408-2 was carved with I believe they're acorns with lots of leaves, similar to Guild's S-100s of the time, although, the little fruits also look like pineapples!  The No. 2408-3 was carved with an eagle.  All had white pickguards with three single-coil pickups and strat-style vibratos.  Unfortunately, production records don't go that far back, but these are probably pretty rare birds.

To heck with dragons, eagles and acorns. Now THIS is a carved guitar for the sophisticated collector!

OH, my...

That should have been photographed against a black velvet background.

Or, at least, blue suede.

Will any Eagle (besides the Black  Wink) or Sequoia (spelling?) ever pop up on the market?

According to "Untold Story" the names of Artwood 2408/1-3 were Artwood Orient (dragon motif), Artwood Nouveau (botanical motif) and Artwood Eagle.
