The Vine is Divine

This guy could play. I've read he was somewhat astounded to be thought of as an 'actor'. He was dubbed a C.G.P. by Chet - here's a clip of them together I spotted on another forum.

RIP Jerry.

During the last months I've been comparing his version of Wabash Canonball with that of Doyle Dykes, who learned a lot from the old guitar heroes. And I discovered he was kind of fond of nylon strings:

Doyle:

and the original from Jerry:

I once rented a CD from him and Chet Atkins from the library. They're difficult to find in the Dutch shops. Chet became a bit easier to find after playing with Mark Knopfler. Chet passed away a year ago, or something. Ah well, Chet and Jerry now finally are together again playing in heaven...

R.I.P. Jerry and Chet, you won't be forgotten,

Jerry Reed was an AMAZING guitarist and personality; he had a great sense humor! Chet had many guitarist that he admired but there was one that he called his hero, Lenny Breau. They both had a mutual respect for each others playing and Lenny was just such a humble cat! I've attached a video of Lenny playing a swinging version of My Funny Valentine with Tal Farlow. I tried to find one with him playing along with Chet but the only ones I found were very poor quality. Lenny developed a technique on the guitar that sounded like two or three guitarist playing at the same time. He would do intricate compings of two separate voicings and single note leads all at the same time. And not to mention his innovative harmonic work that is now being used by a few of todays top jazz guitarist. It was MIND BLOWING and ahead of it's time! Another sad loss back in the mid eighties.

MK,

That is a 7 string guitar that was custom made for Lenny to his specifications; rather than stringing it with a low A he preferred a high A  so he could do that Bill Evan's style voice comping thing.

Weird - the neck looked wider than normal so I thought there were 7 strings.  Late in the video I froze the video and only counted 6 strings.

Anyway...I have enough problems w/ 6 strings!

Roy Clark... is a helluva player... a bit off topic, but... in the realm.
Glenn Campbell, believe it or not, is actually a pretty good player himself.
Jerry always seemed to me someone you wouldn't mind having a beer with.
Too bad he's gone.

Was "I don't like spiders and snakes" jerry's song?
why do I think it was?
