Check out the neck joints, just below the strap button.  Are those dowel ends that I'm seeing?

I think so. The serial number's barely readable, the paint's so thick. Refin?

yeah i saw the joints. I was going to put a question mark in the title but decided not to. Jeez I'm looking at it with a 23 inch monitor and to me it looks like it could be a bolt on with filler over the neck plate.

There question mark inserted.

Puzzles me too...
At first glance I thought: it once was a bolt on model that has been "upgraded" to a set neck. Must be a refinish too. The thick paint and all.....hardly visible serial number in back of the headstock...but...wait a minute.....a bolt-on model would never have the serial number in the back of the headstock! Bolt-ons had the serial number in the backplate.
Somebody made a set neck out of a bolt on, banged the original backplate serial number into the back of the headstock with these -what are they called- "metal letter stamps" and then refinished the guitar??

Something is fishy about this guitar folks....

I agree Harry and wouldn't the set neck have the upgraded tuners also?

Sure looks messed around with, but the claim is that it's not been.  I'd say it's a "set" bolt on too, as wouldn't the real set neck have that gibson stepped heel?  This one's smoothed into the body, and for sure the SN would have been picked out and not had the paint flow into the numbers.  The build and finish quality is just too mech better for this era guitar to obscure the SN from the factory.  From the other Ibby's I've seen, almost all had the SN picked out in gold as well Tongue

I'd have to give this one a miss

Cheers,
Nick

I would give this one a miss as well, when ever I see this in the auction listing "I'm not a guitarist and I'm selling this guitar for the owner who his." It means bad news for who ever buys it. Who in this day and age dont have a ebay account for starters, so this "Im selling it for so and so.." stuff is only used as level of deniability and always has somewhere also stated " I'm not a guitar collector" to go along with the "it isnt mine" statement.

Infact I busted a fake Ibanez Jem seller last week who use this very same ruse. =p
