Six or seven years ago I bought bassman 59 clone, Echolette B40N head made in Germany in 1964...back then I paid 150 euros for it.
It had 3 x 12ax7, 2 x EL34 and one GZ34 rectifier tubes, torodial transformators..
First I changed the transformators with seventies bassman tranformators and I used it with 6L6 tubes, it sounded much better to me....but still, if you ever owned an old bassman you know they have a lot of bass. So I was thinking about the speakers that could give me tight bass response.
I had and still have two vintage 12" speakers in an old box that sounded much better with that amp then my 4 x 10" marshall cab with ceramic G10L - 35 speakers, but I was thinking I want 10" alnico for it. And if I am going to build a box 2 x !0" I might as well build a combo....At the same time my brother finished his Hi-fi tube project with KT 88 tubes, so we started talking about electronics that we could change on this head...

We were also lucky to have some NOS GEC KT 88 tubes, and Russian military 6L6/6P3S tubes so we decided to go that way, to set it up so it can drive bigger tubes...
Then Buk met a german guy mr. B  and he said he is going to make us a box, ain t that  funny? But true, as Buk would say..
Well, to make a long story shorter, I decided for a 2 X 10" combo with controls in the front ( I was thinking about hanging it but the tubes would be difficult to reach  )and made a drawing with measurements for mr. B.
After reading so many reviews during the years of the speakers I decided to be a pair of Jensen P10Q - 35W alnico speaker. Some guys wrote they were crap, but everybody said they are bright, so I gave them a chance for 200 euros...My German friend mr. B brought them kindly from Germany, along with the tolex and grill..
We also found some THD yellow jackets cheap and everything was ready...

That looks really cool Tiho!  It's got a really cool vintage vibe to it.

Nice work!

We will make a video, and we are ready to answer any questions regarding
building and modifying this amp...

Hello Patrick..
Yeah, we wanted it to be vintage looking, it is 45 years old
Anyway, I will feel more comfortable with it when it gets worn out, that s the way I like it...

I have tested it allready with different tubes, and it sounds very good with all of them.
I am going to play it on a gig this friday and we will make a video so you can hear some of that sweet sounds. We will also test it with few Ibbbys and diferent tubes in my room and record it with my camera..

Better picture...
Aditional information of amplifier:
Possibility to "move" all kinds of octal tubes from AB class to high AB class, adjustable bias curreent from 20 mA to 50 mA on output stage.
Tube rectifer GZ34 replaced with solid state (4 x 1N4007) for better dynamic response.
Option to switching speaker in serial (16 ohm impendance) or in parallel (4 ohm impendance), built in ventilator 220 V AC for cooling KT88 tubes (the distance  among them is under datasheet recommendation).
Output power: 30 W for EL 84 with THD yellow yackets, 50 W with KT 66, 6L6, 6P3S, 70 W with KT88
We call it BB 70 T (Buk&Bjorn&Tiho) or Blond Blues & silenT boy...

8)the amp was cracked all the way, as you can hear there is a lot of background noise, Super 80 on my prototype are hard to control in a small room with the amp on full volume Grin.
Here you can hear the sound of that single coil pickup combined with Super 80`, first I just play humbuckers then humbuckers with single coil...
The amp still has a lot of bass, but it bites nice with solid state rectifier and 10" alnico speakers..
Any opinions?

Sounds great! Cool thickness to it.

Only complaint is that after that dramatic lead-in you could have played a little longer and/or tweaked the amp a little for different sounds Tongue

You are right, and I have recorded some more clips, this was the trial version, when I find time I will post some more clips..
The thing is when I turn up Echolette on maximum, microfone on my camera automaticaly reduces sensitivity, so you can not hear how loud it is...
