You may remember seeing this on Ebay a while back. It had a Washburn Wonder bar and a pickguard. Since it was a Wonder Bar and not a Kahler I was crossing my fingers that there was no damage underneath it and fortunately there wasn't. After patching the screw holes, not perfect but close enough for me, its back to its former glory. Other then the alterations its in great shape - no dings on the neck at all, electronics all work and the frets just needed a light leveling. As my dad used to say sometimes you get the bear and sometimes you get the paw. I think I got lucky this time.

Fantastic! I was in the hunt for that one myself. I'm glad it turned out so well.

Thanks guys. Mongo, I love it! This is my first 26xx solidbody. I really like the thinner body, neck shape, finish compared to my '82 AR300, and the EQ is fantastic.

Outstanding work there porkpie!!

Very impressive! So are these as thin as a 2617 then? I didn't know the AR series were thicker.

Well, you made me break out the calipers Cheesy
Body thickness at the butt end strap button.
'82 Ar300 1.89"
'78 2622   1.61"
Over a 1/4" difference!
It would be interesting to compare the weights of an AR300 with a 2618 or 2619.

Here's a thread where I compared some thickness characteristics.

At this point you really couldn't tell that the monstrosity was ever on there! Never would have guessed it could come back to life like that.

Really nice, I saw that auction and was terrified.

You'll have to give the Wunderbar a decent burial somewhere.

Nice resurrection!

And nice info on the body thicknesses.

Now I need to measure my AR300!

It looks like, first, you did a good job repairing the screw holes, and second, that the gibraltar and cloud are positioned just right to help hide the holes. The Ibanez gods are smiling on you!

Its what I would call a good 5 foot repair. If you get closer you can still see something was patched on either side of the cloud. Another 1/4" in and they would have been under it, but it does help mask them. The tricky screw hole was where the pick guard was attached near the fretboard. It was half in the wood and half in the binding so i had to fill in the missing binding portion with some white epoxy then draw in the black binding lines. I filled the other holes with maple dowels I made, matched the color with amber and tobacco brown speckles then drop filled with good old super glue. I've found super glue to be the best thing to blend with Ibanez finishes. After sanding and buffing you can't see a line between the finish and glue and if you make a mistake acetone removes the super glue and doesn't put a dent in the original finish. The other nice thing is since super glue has gap filling properties only one or two applications will fill in even a deep ding. Anyway it works for me.

Very nice work!  Did the headstock have holes for the trem?  How did that part turn out for you if you had to fix it?

Thanks. The locking nut had short screws only through the headstock face so it was easy to patch.
