One could hope that they didn't strip off the original polycoat, then you might be able to strip off the top layer and salvage it. But asking $1,000 to start for this is a bit steep to gamble on that.

At first, being the supportive rocker, I thought "it looks like a good reason to express my inner Jack Black" aka: Nacho Libre....

But then, I just figured Leopard Man would would snipe the high bid anyway...

Okay - back to some serious PAIN and AGONY!!

Ebay Item Number # 250274824723

I can't tell if this used to be a MC400 or 500NT - but reading the description is also sort of disturbing too:

"This is a vintage Ibanez Musician, 1978.  . . .  The active electronics have been removed, so there are some holes in the body where the switches were.  The pickups in there are Seymour Duncans. They sound awesome, and in my opinion way better than cheesy active setup that came in these.  There is a coil tap for each pickup. The tuner's are also Schaller locking tuners, which I dont think are original. It comes with a hardshell case... "

Cheesy? Somebody get a rope . . .

I can't tell for sure but I don't think it's a blond on blond. But having a newfound respect and adoration for the MC series in general I found viewing this axe about as much fun as getting a root canal.

MC400 because of the dark core. Dark headstock, at least, but what a shame.

Toms - there was a recent auction (about a week ago) for one of these Ibby active eq systems and it sold north of $400. Knobs not included.  Undecided  Shocked

This axe has beautiful wood grain too. It is still beautiful but I saw Darwinism in it due to the pup & electronics mods. It's like buying a formula one racer and putting a lawnmower engine in it. Yeah!! That'll make it go way faster!! Whatever.

I agree, it's stoopid to pull out the eq (but maybe he didn't know what he was doing, like:  "Just a cheap Jap guitar" you know...  Sad ). But I'm actually happy to see a Musician without a Kahler route or a hole for an extra pickup, becaus it means she could be saved!

IIRC correctly, the guy here who makes those replica eq's is from Germany and his name is Yogi or Juergen...

To be fair, that auction also included two Super 80 pups and mounting rings.
