That guitar was professionally relic'd.  The same flint tools were used, that prehistoric luthiers used to modify ancient ibanez guitars.  These modifications actually do add value to the guitar, and any serious collector could recognize that.

Also, if we had pictures of the back of the guitar we would be able to see that it was signed in person by Bronson Pinchot (cousin Balki from Perfect Strangers).

I don't know why you guys have started this thread just to bash peoples mods.  Everyone know that ibanez makes terrible guitars, and it takes countless hours of work remove random chips of finish, and get the pickups to sit at exactly 9.37625 degrees off center.

If even one of you would sign up for my mail away course "How to modify guitars if you have no thumbs" you'd stop this horrible darwin thread.

Is it me or does that patch where the rout was filled look like it's covered with some kind of faux leopard fur? Or is it rawhide? I don't know what to think of the opening bid price either.

The listing says "has been filled with wood filler".
The texture may be from a putty knife...

I wonder what effect it will have on the tone...    Shocked

It looks like a crack--or at least a gouge--beside the one tailpiece post.  Other than the tailpiece/brideg area--it's actually a very nice looking guitar--I would be leery of it if I couldn't check it out in person to see if it's fixable.

Sorry to do this, but it's time to cry again folks. That is unless you happen to have a couple extra SG1s, an EQ knob, and a complete active EQ circuit to restore this potential beauty of a MC500DS. This might be a sleeper. Ebay Item Number # 330279375447

What's with the last couple where the bridge isn't laterally flat, it looks like the teeth need braces.

What the heck?

I've seen a lot worse. That's a pretty common issue with the quick change tail.

I've seen it worse, for some reason, with chrome tails rather than gold, but I suppose the plating shouldn't make a difference. It could be any reason, from weak base metal/poor casting to heavy strings strung too tight.

I guess that's why they changed the design to diagonal slots later...

Did you own this one Bob Cheesy Wink?  Just kidding.

Patrick

I've never even seen that guitar before in my life  Wink really!

Okay, except for ebay . . .

Hey at least it's an Ibanez Floyd on there.  Cheesy  Looks like it was installed well too.

The real crying shame on this one is it's pre-serial. Even I was ready to call the Vintage Police because of this.

At the very least, I think a moment of silence is in order. Cry

I very nearly went for that one the last time it was listed. I like Vs and I like Floyds; somebody else has already done the dirty work, so...
