Dude, I've got GAS!

« on: January 17, 2008, 11:19:15 AM »

I was thinking we needed a thread dedicated to 'Darwin Awards'. Where we gather the best of the worst hatchet jobs. A place to serve as a reminder of the creative endeavors that resulted in a Frankenstein of a guitar, left to wander the earth as an outcast...  Wink

I would submit the 2007 award goes to "Grinder Baby, the 2614 with the comfort feel"

This poor 2614 has been listed on ebay several times with no takers. It's price starting around 800.00 Canadian, it's dropped to the 600's and is still an orphan. Considered to not barely be worth the parts value, aside from one of the pups, this vintage axe is destined to wander.

2008 starts out with a contender from the late 70's.

I submit for consideration for the 2008 Darwin Award, "Exit Stage Left, the 2622 that goes both ways"

When you have a great guitar that's a righty, but you're a lefty, what do you do?
Of course, you drill holes on the other side and move everything. Vuala' it's a lefty..

A moment of silence is appropriate...

Oh, we've seen worse. If you search on terms such as "horror" and "abomination" you might come up with some good pictures. But beware, it's like looking at the old Signal 30 films from high school driver's ed.

I'm sure there have been some truly painful discoveries. My hope is that this thread can give us an outlet to contain the horror while allowing us to add a touch of humor to it. What do you think of my descriptive titles...  Wink

I figure, history forgotten is destined to be repeated. We could send each person who got a router for Christmas here for a look at some other 'creations'.

Giving annual awards to the best of the worst.  Grin
There has to be some redemptive value in there somewhere...

So, on the San Antonio Slaughter, he drilled a new hole to move the volume pot out of the way for strumming... ok...

I can't tell by the pics, but it looks like the old pot is still in the hole.   Huh  I think hitting a knob is better than thrashing your hand on an exposed knob post.

I guess it's 1 point off for the Makita massacre...
and 1 point off for the misplaced monogram Smiley

It's becoming apparent from my Musician data gathering that the Natural finish Musicians that also have a light headstock are confined pretty much to an April 1978 manufacture. After that date, the headstocks are dark. It's sad to see this beautiful NT/Blondie have the modifications it does, because it's a rare bird. He only wants $400 for it, and it is rare, but, dang. Can't do it.

I didn't even notice it was a Blondie.
That's very unfortunate with it being a rarity.

I'm glad we got that out of the way.  I've got one too many projects going on.  Hopefully an ICW member got it and has the parts.  It was cool to get that data from the headstock.  That auction was amazingly timely.

You could part it out. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Really, that's a rare bird, and if it weren't for the moved knob, I would have been very interested.

The other blonde on blonde MC200NT closed today and went to Cleversj. So two rare Musicians have come into the "family". Well done, boys!
