What's with all the Musicians with replaced pups suddenly? They're coming out of the woodwork!

The odd thing is - those are mid-eighties era Ibanez pups in this one - I have a bridge one I pulled out of my PL1770. They're okay but I like the Duncan JB I have in there better.

Given a choice between these in this MC and the original Super 88's I'd stick with the originals for sure. Also - is it me or do those gold pup rings really not work on this one? I think it's the way they fail to cover the original pup rout that bugs me. See pic 9 & 10.

Unlike the MC400 at least the mounting screws stayed inside the cavity. Where did all these Super 88's go? You rarely see them for sale.

Sometimes these are really really sad. This is one of those times. Have a box of tissue handy. You've been warned.

I saw that listing. Is that repairable?
It's hard to tell with the carved top exactly what has been done to it.

I'm wondering about this one as a restoration project too. At first I thought it was a brown burst vined Scruggs. And a pre-serial one most likely - note the script logo set at an angle. This is definitely a very early one.

I think it has a refin - non-original knobs - total binding replacement needed - non-original pups - tuning machines look suspect - and I question if that's the original bridge too. Yeah it's a total mess. But given the binding is totally gone . . . it kinda' makes it easy to know where to start. I can't imagine what it would cost to restore this. But I do think it's do-able.

$700 is too much, even if it really is a darkburst vined Scruggs. I think it's been stained though. Look at the color of the neck.

I think it'll go for a bit more than $700 and it is very repairable.  Notice the control layout.

Did you read the auction ?  Is it my imagination or is this seller a total tool ?

In need of some minor cosmetic refinishing, trim missing around body and at the base of neck...otherwise its in excellent condition.

Dont let the pictures fool you, its only "minor cosmetic refinishing"..........that guitar is in "excellent condition"  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I'm well aware of what this guitar is worth and in the right hands it will be worth ALOT more ! Serious inquiries only...I'd prefer to sell to a private party who will appreciate this fine piece of art...its been with me for 20 years, I hate to let it go, but its time to move on...

I doubt he is REALLY aware of its worth (like $300 in its current condition) ! Grin Grin

Here comes the finisher !!!!!!

Once its gone its gone...NO RETURNS....

I am speechless !

This guitar would make a great restoration-there is nothing really wrong with it that cant be fixed, but his price is ridiculous consitering the amount of work that has to be done-it should be called a "project" anyway

Yep. I read it. I gave some serious thought to contacting the seller to inquire what exactly they considered major cosmetic work. Perhaps helping them understand what "excellent condition" really means.  Wink

After the 2617 aggravation I just went through, me wonders why the binding is only missing at the neck area.....perhaps this baby has had its neck removed too....... Huh

We need to see the back and this guy need a higher megapixel camera.
