She's happy as a clam at the moment 'cause I'm selling them off. I'll be down to 4 guitars by the end of the week. My last Roadstar just hit reserve on eBay. I may not own an Ibanez by the end of June.

I'm struggling to find a job and our band is playing regularly so I'm focused on "must have" gear only right now. It's kind of liberating actually.

Nooooooo... Bear... say it ain't so!!!

You gotta keep at least one, as "must have" gear!!!

What'll we call you, after they're all gone?

I still got the DT250 and DT200. The DT200 is going to the kid down the street. I'll hang onto the DT250 as long as I can. Sold my EXB404 bass to a bandmate.

Looks like the RG420CI might bring some good cash:

On a positive note, I just received word from my brother that a long wait is finally over. Long story short, he is in at the ground floor on a pro recording studio here in Portland. He'll be the house engineer. If things go well, I'll be able to get some work outta there as assistant AE and maybe some producer gigs. Not to mention the cheap studio time for my band

Back on-topic, my wife has always been cool with my guitar habit. The PA gear in the living room is another story...

Hmm,  Mr. DT, sounds like a withdrawal symptom.

Naw, I'll always be the Roadstar guy. Even if John did bury all my hard work in a pop-up menu!

I'd still like to acquire an RS320 someday.

Shhh! Don't tell the wife

AS80

« Reply #21 on: May 25, 2007, 04:18:42 PM »

Welp, I just bought a realy nice AS80 on Ebay and I've had it sitting on a stand in front of my amps ever since when I'm not playing it RIGHT in front of her and until she notices I'm not saying a word. It kind of an ongoing thing we have about her being so unobserving of things so I figured I may buy guitars till she notices. Only problem is I'm filling up the corners of the room with cases. One way I was successful though was in timing. See I just justified a guitar by getting it at a time when I could say it was a combined gift for fathers day, my birthday and our anniversary.....WAAAAA LA....problem solved.

My GAS is relentless. Therefore, I will always be planning the next acquisition. Right now it's PA gear. The wife sings with the band so there's no issues.

However, I do have my sights set on a new flavour of guitar. Hmm...  Not sure I should mention this here. Lemme just say they are Japanese made and leave it at that.

How does the wife figure into this mess? When I spot a likely candidate I ask her what she thinks of the color...

"Wife sings with the band"

That scares me. I've had 2 'in the band' girlfriends in the past (of course, not both at the same time ). Both ended in tears. Hats off to you and the missus Bear.

Dave in all honesty why do you have such a collection of guitars and parts. Is it an obsession or are you trying to collect all vintage parts you can- so many will have to buy from you and you can charge customes excessive amounts  of money for a 1$ item?In other words corner the market and become a guitar mogul??Im having a hard time connecting the dots....

Fingers-You don't get it at ALL....I have never charged anyone anything for any parts (well maby couple of pickups here and there) Most of the extra vintage parts I have donated to other members of the forum (feel free to chime in) to help restore some of these vintage gems.  Of course, I need many parts just to keep my collection looking good and authentic too.  Believe it or not, its not about $.....I am very , very fortunate to be able to afford my hobby, not trying to be anything, I just really dig vintage guitars and will support anyone else with similar likes to the best of my ability.

This concept is very hard for most to understand, especially in the days of $20 knobs and $150 bridges...it just makes me want to puke when I see the parts jackels tear apart a perfectly good guitar to sell it in parts to make a few extra $.  Its pathetic to destroy a 25+ year old piece of art to make a couple of hundred $...its ridiculous.....I'd much prefer to see an avid collector resurrect one of these beauties and I have restored dozens of Ibanez classics and donated parts for many many more.

"Only problem is I'm filling up the corners of the room with cases."

THAT's the real @!##... trying to hide all of the cases!

There's no more room behind the couch & my garage is getting full of cases too!

Fingers... and ANYONE ELSE wondering... I, for one, will testify to Dave's MORE than pure intentions! (having been a beneficiary on more than one occasion)

I don't claim to understand it, completely, but I know that his heart is in the 'right place'.

Don't ASSume... you know what that does!
