Check on eBay. You can get them for about $10-$12 each there, and usually order a few at a time to save on shipping. They cost like $18 in the stores.

Yep, that's them. In the picture, there's a plastic nub covering the threads. The yolk screws into the block where you can see the silvery threads (middle hole). I think the first of these I got were a present from my wife (little did she know...) and from there, I just matched the brand. You may want to solicit feedback from other members on more sturdy mounts. I think these are pretty solid, but there may be others that are better.

Try the Hercules Stand. It locks the neck automatically.

Here's what I did with four of the hangers I had left over after my downsizing. This bass is mounted this way, so the painting looks good. (Yes, I painted it myself.)

Now that I've read the entire thread, I have to say that my wife thinks I'm crazy with all my hobbies, especially the guitars. Luckily I have a theater which is my domain and that's where I display (and play) them. The real problem as was stated before are the cases. I've stuffed them into every hidden crevice I can find; from closets to laundry room and even the kid's closets! I don't want to store them in the attic or the garage so what to do?

Fun thread!

My situation with the wife has taken an interesting turn in recent months. But maybe a little background about myself is in order. I've been a full time professional musician for almost 30 years now. Currently I write & produce music for a living but I still teach a few private students on the side and I've taught guitar and music at the university level as well.

A few months ago out of the blue, my wife says she wants to learn to play guitar. This completely freaked me out. We've been married for 20 years and now she wants to jam. So she takes my beater Washburn and I give her some stuff to practice and now she's telling me she wants a Taylor and a PRS - so now I'm having twilight zone moments. You know, "where is my wife and what have you done with her" type stuff. Tonight she asked me to show her how to play some '30 Seconds to Mars' tune.

But there's still a twist. For whatever reason, she HATES all guitars with f holes, as well as anything with exotic, non-traditional body shapes. She calls them "old man guitars." So as some of you may have noticed, I bought that Ibanez Flying V today and I sort of knew what she's going to say when I brought it home. She starts laughing, closes her eyes and yells, "get that 'old man guitar' out of my sight! Why couldn't you buy something cool that I 'd want to play!"

I may need therapy. This is just too weird.

Prior to this unexpected guitar interest, I found it very helpful to buy her something nice before making another guitar purchase. For my wife, an iPod, or a new camera, or a new iMac worked well. Though this method does tend to wreak havoc on one's guitar budget, it's been very effective in my experience.

I can see us getting into arguments over who put what ding into what guitar in the near future. I'm open to any advice you may have to offer. For now, I'm just going with it.

BTW Chuck - very nice work there!

That's a trip dude. I say encourage her.

Your marriage has a whole new area to grow in. If she applies herself and has the ability, you could be making beautiful music together for the next 20 years.

Very cool!

I am always trying to get my kids involved in music (they are 6, 4 and 1. -all girls!). I bought a small guitar, a piano and an electric drum kit. The baby is always trying to strum (or at least swat at) my guitar while I'm playing on the couch. I only use guitars I don't really care about the finish when playing around my family. My wife is a lost cause when it comes to playing. She doesn't get it but allows me to play whenever I want. I can't wait for the day when my girls and I can jam!
