This is my Unpopular Beat Combo, Maya29

http://www.myspace.com/maya29band

We're a female-fronted prog/hard rock/metal/whatever band based in Edinburgh, UK. We've spent the last 8 years playing all-original music, composed by myself & our singer, & will gig anywhere for a bag of chips.

We look a little like this, sometimes:

And quite coincidentally, GuitarBoy Nick is playing his Roadstar II while I'm camping it up with my tasteful orange EDA900.

FYI...I'm sitting in with some guys at Pancho's in Bethpage, Long Island tomorrow night.  I'll probably play my '81 MC550NW.

If you can, stop on by and say 'hi'.

Well, since were all pimpin, if you got some time, have a look at us. The website's done and so is the CD.
The bolt on LP (through a JCM800) sounded a treat on the recording too!

well since you asked,

www.myspace.com/hopevalley

just put our new demo on there featuring the marvellously playable Ibanez SG recently purchased from the gentleman known as chuckE99.

thanks again chuck.  Smiley

we're just a heavy 2 piece guitar and drums combo, with a boss oc3 octaver providing the low-end.

might not be everyone's cup of tea.

or bucket of swill.  Cheesy

I'm listening to the stuff on your myspace right now. It sounds excellent! (And not just because you're using the SG/2394.)

Budgie! Wow, I haven't heard anyone mention them in thirty years. Somewhere i have one of their albums. I bought it from an import bin back in the 1970's. (Now I'm off to launch my Zune to see if any of their stuff is online.)

here's the long answer....  Grin

on that demo i used my Hartke HA5500 bass amp (valve preamp, bassy but good top-end too), through a stock marshall 4x12, and an old FAL amp that the guy who owns the studio bought for £30, through a marshall 4x10. a very nice amp, that FAL, supposedly transistor but it's got lot of depth and that smooth valvey break-up at high volume, so i guess there's some tubes in there somewhere.

we split the signal using a Boss TU2 tuner, and upped the bass on the hartke and the treble/mids on the FAL. each cab had 2 mics, close and ambient, and there was a joint ambient mic to catch a bit of both, i think.

you didnt ask about pedals, but i'll mention them if you're interested,

guitar went straight into a boss OC3 super octaver, tweaked to only effect the top 2 strings (an amazing feature, buy one and sack your bass player), then into an Ibanez Tubescreamer, not the original green one, i think it's a 90s reissue (the one with the switch from TS7 to TS9) for the less hectic distorted moments, then into a Russian Big Muff for the heavy riffing, then finally into an Electro Harmonix Holy Grail reverb unit to add some spaaaaace maaaaan.

i do like my pedal setup, a nice mix of old and new, and not weighed down with too many delays or chorus units. i do like delay etc, but somehow i end up playing the delay box, not the guitar.

The wife has been on a mission lately, each night sorting and cataloging old photos.  Here are a couple that found there way into the "Do you want these or they're going in the trash" pile... Grin (Just kidding Kat  Wink)

Various 'Artist' shots from bands I've played in over the years.  When I was seventeen...

Great picks.

I especially dig the cream finish on the AR350PLT.
Is that an 86 or 87?

It's an '85 in really nice shape.  I've also got some other goodies with it.  I saw in your other posts that you're looking for one.  I have considered selling in the past, but never pulled the trigger.

Send me a PM to discuss.
