What is it I hear some say..... I've been looking for 20years for this one.
A Ricky 4001 stereo bass copy. Thru neck version with the stereo output, preserial.
Last week I missed out on buying one in great condition from someone down south, and thought I'd be waiting another 20 years. Then this one turned up across town yesterday.

Like just about every other one of theese, someone has replaced the headstock logo with a Ricky one, so if anyone has an Ibanez logo HS they'd be willing to part with, please contact me on Snowjays@hotmail.com

Hi Tom

Wow! Great looking bass!
Can you post a picture of how the output(s?) look like?
Does it have one mono and one stereo output jack or is there just one stereo?

Funny: in those early days we wanted our copies to look like the real thing and exchanged logos, nowadays we're pissed when somebody did so and we eagerly try to find the original again...

Kind greetz,
Harry

Hi Harry,

Yes it has a "stereo-sound" and "standard" output jacks all on one plate. If I can get a couple of extra pics I'll post them for you.

I was pretty disappointed missing the other one, it still had the original rectangle case and looked like it had been stored most of it's life.
The fellow who bought that also lives in Bribane, but told the seller he was going to make some alterations. (ie pups etc)

The neck on this one is nothing like the bolt on version, feels like half a tree trunk.
Oddly enough how you mention how we want them to look like "the real thing", Rickenbacker USA, actively persue theese copies, and actually cancel any ebay auctions because of this reason. Makes it very difficult to find theese models.

That is beautiful.

You have no idea how much I want one of those...

Curiously, Rickenbacker's idiotic attitude to the sale of copies leaves me with no desire whatsoever to own the "real thing".

Bassassin,

The other I have is a 1977 Kasuga bass that I bought off a mate of mine a few years ago. He was the original owner. Plays great, but nothing like having that 4001 stereo sound.

Of course - I can just make out the headstock logo now. I've never seen a Rick copy with maple board & black markers before. Very striking!

Hi Guys:

I have the same Rick copy, neck thru, stereo outs, but made by Univox. I think the only difference may be that the Ibanez has checkered binding. Oh my gawd, what a bass! Incredible sound! It's the one I always end up with when recording. Great growl. Love everything about it. Got it in excellent condition with original case a few years ago for a fair buy-it-now ebay price. Worth double the price, IMHO. I could sell my other basses, and might.
