Bought this very recently. It is a year 2000 model, with the skinny bridge. Depsite that I am SO happy that I bought an Ibanez and not a Fender P special. Who else has one of these 300DXs and have you modded it? I am planning on getting a gotoh bridge and some new pickups. What pickups have you tried and what do you recommend?

Nice one - you can't go far wrong with an SR. I don't have a 300DX but I have two SR800s - fretted & fretless, both from about 1991, I think.

There are loads of pup & bridge options - if the bridge is a standard P/J style you could replace it with a Badass II - never seen an Ibanez with one of those!

Why not ask that friendly (and opinionated!) bunch at www.bassworld.co.uk for advice & suggestions too?

Jon.

Hi Jon. The bridge is not a standard P/J bridge. It's held on by screws in the corners and is really flimsy. I have gone for the gotoh so it looks relatively un-modified. I also completely blew my budget and got some duncan pups. At least they hold value when/if I sell them on.

Well, I installed the bridge tonight. That wasn't so hard at all.

Of the 2 pickups I bought, the p-bass pup wouldn't fit on the bass because the routing is just that bit too small, and the corners rounded. But I managed to get the j-bass pup on, had soldered it up and plugged it in.

Wow. In comparison, before, the bass sounded like Kenny from South Park - everything was muffled and although it made a noise, and you could distinguish the varying tones, but it wasn't super. But now the difference is blindingly obvious. Come this weekend I am getting the chisel out to widen the pickup routing, and install the p-bass pickup, and for a set up.

We have another convert for the Duncan Quarter Pounders. :-)
