Are the high end Prestige 'SR' basses a good bet for a working musician or best for bedroom players?

For the money, these MIJ models look like a decent value with great features...34" scale neck thru/nice woods/Bartolini electronics/great neck...

I currently play 35" scale BTB600E and BTB5PDK and love the tones of both. The 'SR's are very cool looking but...

OK...I did my own research, (since it's fun) and found the information I was seeking. For anyone else interested, here's what retailers say:

"The SR Series: Basses That Look As Great As They Sound!
If you're looking to purchase a superb bass guitar that will likely last you a lifetime, look no farther than the SR Series from Ibanez. Available in four, five and even six string versions, the SR1000 basses combine classic good looks with premium tone woods. The five-piece maple and bubinga necks are the thinnest and fastest in their class, while the dual Bartolini pickups and three-band EQ deliver the kind of monster tone usually associated with custom built instruments that cost a small fortune!"

Ibanez SR1005 at a Glance:

Beautiful flamed maple body in natural flat finish

Five-piece maple/bubinga neck-thru design with rosewood fingerboard

Bartolini Custom pickups and active EQ circuitry

Lightweight, balanced and comfort contoured body
This is unquestionably one of the best looking five-string bass guitars around, but it's also surprisingly light weight with a superbly balanced, comfort contoured maple body and a gorgeous flamed maple top that's finished in a sweet flat natural. Most other manufacturers charge extra for such premium timbers, but like all Ibanez instruments, the SR1005 is an exceptional value. This is a bass guitar that plays every bit as great as it looks!

Sleek, slender SR5 neck-thru design
The Ibanez SB1005 sports one of the most playable necks in its class - even for a five-string. You start with a amazingly thin five-piece maple and bubinga neck that's perfectly matched with the SR5 Prestige neck-thru design. The nut is also thinner than you'll find on almost any production instrument. You won't believe just how fast this neck plays and how effortlessly you can access the upper frets. The rosewood fingerboard offers a strong, tight sound and an attractive appearance with a long grain pattern and abalone offset dot inlays.

Bartolini Pickups Matched to Active Three-Band EQ
While the SR1005 is unquestionably a great looking bass guitar that plays like a dream, you also want your bass to deliver earth shaking lows and crystal clear highs. That's no problem thanks to the specially-designed Bartolini Custom neck and bridge pickups which are matched to the Vari-Mid Hi-Fi three-band EQ circuitry. This combination allows you to quickly dial in your perfect bass sound regardless of your individual style and preference. From roadhouse blues to jazz fusion, the SR1005 delivers the perfect sound every time!
