Hi Grunge!

WHATTTTT? HEY!!!!!! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND???? IMMEDIATELY PUT THE PICKGUARD BACK ON AND LEAVE IT WHERE IT IS!!!!

No...just kidding...that is: I strongly recommend you to keep it in a safe place because the value of your bass depends on its originality. As long as you are the owner you're free to do with it what you want (as long as you don't drill/refinish/make it fretless and change pickups or machine heads, so...how free can you be to "do what you want"...). If you don't like the pickguard then remove it or replace it (you'll have to make one yourself, because no factory replacement will fit). But if you ever want to sell it and you don't have the original pick guard (or if you would spray the thing over) this particular bass model will devaluate and is of no interest anymore for collectors.
And indeed, the mother of pearl "inlays" are not really inlays: the eagle figure is just made "see-through" in the pickguard and very thin "slices" of MOP were taped on the back of the pickguard. Seen from the front you'd swear the eagle figure was a real inlay IN the pickguard.
We already discovered (in another thread on this board) that the inlays of the Custom Agent also were no real inlays at all.....Guess back then they would have been more correct to have it called "decoration" in stead of "inlay".
Nevertheless: Fine (but heavy!) bass. Enjoy and be careful not to throw original parts away!!
Kind greetz,
Harry
